LAUGH Dammit!

Late last week I had the a very upsetting call from my lawyer informing me that my business partner had committed suicide. First there is disbelief, then there is shock, and then there is anger. I'm just about passing the stage of anger to resolvent. This is the stage where you try to come to a conclusion in your mind to give your emotions and psyche some rest. It isn't going well if that's the case.

It got me thinking. The last blog received a lot of angry emails from people who read it and totally missed the message. I made a remark about feeling like I was a secretary and therefore feeling bad about that. One person was so angry, she said she is not only leaving the group, but hopes 'to never read any of my books, go to my seminars or see me in the street because there is nothing wrong with being a secretary and I'm an ass'. And that was from my mother!!

What those who reacted missed, was that I have nothing against secretaries, in fact I know they control the office environment, but it's not MY dream. It's the dream of someone else. If they enjoy being a secretary, more power to them! But I felt I was being taken away from my dream.

The bigger issue is this: We look for reasons to be upset these days.

We all scream 'Freedom of Speech'..until it is something we don't want to hear. We all tell everyone else to relax, until we are tested and fly off the handle!

The tensions in society is so high, that a man just drove over a cyclist and in turn killed him. A toddler was beaten severely in the street. A dog is dragged from the back of a car for 3 kilometres. We are PISSED OFF these days!!

My partner killed himself because he forgot a very simple rule: LAUGH. He got caught up so heavily in what he thought was a dead end, he figured there was no way to get around it - leaving behind 2 children.

I think that if we all just started to find ONE THING to laugh at in a day, we would be a different society. We wouldn't get caught up in the small things in life that ends up being energy used for no reason. Just laugh! In debt? Laugh. Lost your job? Find the one thing that is funny about it. You can always cry later.

We had the worst week last week. Between my partner, a very bad quarter in the book business, and 2 very large book chains going into a severe crunch, a potential law suit and 4 rejections in 2 days, I thought many times about quitting. After all that, a pigeon pooped on my car literally as I came out of the car wash!! The car hadn't even fully dried!!!!! I thought how much worse could the week get at that point? I had to laugh.

We take life too seriously. Whatever you are going through, if it can't kill you, it isn't worth dwelling on. I guarantee you will find a solution by the next day IF you can find one thing to laugh at about that situation.

LAUGH DAMMIT!!!!
